I just thought to check my domain record for rootarcana.com, spur of the moment. I was bored at work, and realized that the contact info was probably out of date, so forth, so on. Guess what I discovered?

Rootarcana.com will expire in 2 days (March 25).

Therefore, I have a choice. Either I can get my tush into gear and re-register rootarcana.com, or I can get my tush into a higher gear and purchase a new name. For instance, journalarcana.com is up for grabs. When I bought rootarcana.com, I didn’t know what I was going to use it for… it’s only been in the last few months that the site has really solidified in my mind as a blog.

I’d like some advice on this… anybody got any? Leave your advice in the comments. As I think this one through, I plan to leave updates of my own in the comments of this entry.

The simple breakdown:

Benefits of staying with rootarcana -
Don’t have to remember a new name (familiarity).
Don’t have to change links elsewhere (ease).
No chance of downtime between-names (continuity).

Benefits of changing to something else -
The chance for a more ‘apt’ name (accuracy).
I’m sure there’s more, but I can’t think of them (stupidity).

Please, please, please give me ideas. I’m sleepy. :)

As I said, journalarcana.com is open. I think I plan on this site remaining a blog in essesnce, no matter what, so having the word ‘journal’ wouldn’t be too weird. As long as I stick with the name ‘Journal Arcanca’. Which I came up with off the top of my head when I installed MovableType and it asked me for a journal name. *grin* I liked it, though, and stuck with it.

Also, robglazebrook.com is available. That one’s nice because my name isn’t likely to change, and if it does, my website is likely the least of my worries. However, I’m not sure I like the idea of the website named after me. This website isn’t *me*, it’s my journal. Two different things.

Of course, I could just move everything over to WapJaw. But I still think of WapJaw as the business-me, which I would want to keep seperate from the personal-me. *sigh*

So far, the shortest site-represetative name I can find is:

http://www.arcan.us (gender-neutral form of arcana)

I don’t know if that’d be easy to remember or not, though. It’d certainly be easier to type than http://www.rootarcana.com, though I’ve grown pretty good at that over the last year.

Actually, there are a lot of fun .us names available, such as whump.us, lastof.us, andth.us, and jesusplease.us. *grin*

I like ‘rootarcana’. My vote is to stay with this. I like your reasons behind choosing this domain name to begin with!

What about layusdownandfrisk.us/baby or send-money-to.us/

But if you’re married to this whole *arcana.com thing, go with Journal. Odds are no one will run-out and snatch-up rootarcana.com so if you come up with a better idea (somewhere just to keep your stories online or the like).

I’m not necessarily married to the whole *arcana thing… I kinda liked the idea of jeezuspleez.us, if I wasn’t so sure my family would excommunicate me for it. If you’re interested in helping a search for a new name, I’m using this tool here.

Not that I’m for-sure changing, but it could be fun.

I like rootarcana and also for the same reason Danielle stated. Sorry we missed you this morning. :(
