Welcome to the new face of Journal Arcana, or as it is more lovingly known, v5.0. Although this is really more like the 7th iteration in our textual journey together, it’s the 5th iteration since I bothered to start counting.

Things work differently now. Some of the major differences are as follows:

  • The whole site has changed! If you came in at the blog level, check out some of the other links in the navigation bar at the top.
  • Most all links will open in the same window. If you don’t like this, download Firefox, then middle-click (press the scrollwheel) the link to open it in a new tab.
  • No search bar. Again, Firefox makes a search bar fairly redundant. I ~will~ be adding site-specific search functionality later, however.
  • Comments open in the same window. This may take some getting used to. It did for me while I was testing stuff out.
  • Comments are threaded! This means that you can not only reply to the entry as a whole, but to other comments. Use this feature to ease conversations.

Things are not yet perfect. I’ll be making changes to things here and there over the next week. If you find something that doesn’t work or want something that isn’t there, leave a comment on this entry and I’ll see what I can do.

Yours,
-Rob

Wow - I get to be first!

mom

Oooops! I’m third you win!
this is very nice Rob!

Eric

It’s easy on the eyes, this is acceptable.

I approve. ;p

so, uhmmm… i was doing my routine blog check and i didn’t even realize i was on your blog! it’s all different. not just blog the whole shebang!!! pretty cool and you apparently got that whole thread posting thingie all done. i was interested in figuring out why each page has whatever picture pertains to it… specifically the lighthouse and the walnut. so far all i have is that you’re a nutcase and your blog is uhmm… a beacon of light in the dark =D i think i better stop this guessing.

Rob

I’ll explain the pics a bit, since everyone I showed draft versions to commented on them. :p

The walnut is easy… the “About” pages describe me and my site in a nutshell. Hence, the nutshell.

The pencil on the contact page is because, you know, you can write to people with a pencil.

The typewriter on the portfolio page sorta makes sense too, I think. Though it’ll probably change. I’m thinking and arrangement of manilla file folders makes better sense.

The lighthouse for the blog confused everyone. The idea is this: when I first started rootarcana and journal arcana, my tagline was “the search for that which cannot be found,” “that which cannot be found” being the root arcana, or the origin of secrets. The lighthouse is sorta a hat tip to the old blog tagline: a lighthouse to help the search.

I drank the rest of your beer. *beams*

Nice new face, Rootarcana! Nice success in not casusing me to be annoyed by excessively bright coloring. ~very calming~ I did a little work on mine over the break as well. Fired-up those CSS pop-up menus we talked about. Tried to do it on my own rather than find a tutorial so the code prolly ain’t as clean as it could be, but still a lot clearner it than it was with the javascript pop-ups that dreamweaver spat into source. OH well check it out lemme know what you think.

Amanda

The real question is: how do you spell maintenance? Yeah, I have to make you feel bad. Because someone has to. :) And geez. It was like a week you left that up.

Amanda

Also, I’m not sure how original your “lighthouse” idea is. Didn’t I tell you that a couple of weeks ago? You plagiarist of ideas! *scowl* :)

mom

So how come Eric doesn’t update anymore?
(I figure he is more likely to read this then a comment on his site.)

mom

I wonder how long we get to stare at this page?
