Well, I made it home safely, despite my best efforts to the contrary. I’ve driven 600 miles in the last 30 hours, which is something like 15 miles an hour, but instead of the slow and steady approach I decided to speed through large portions of it and take breaks in the interim. It didn’t work out too well for the hare, as I recall, but the hare also didn’t have a hot young bunny waiting for him at the finish line, either. ;)
I had a really good time in Nebraska. I’d write that one down, as it probably doesn’t get said too often. The drive to Dana’s aunt’s house in Lincoln took around four hours, and then after meeting the aunt, the cousin, and the sister, Dana and I headed back to Omaha to go to the zoo. She hadn’t been in manyplus years, and I’d never been, that I recall, so I was pretty excited. And justifiably so! Check out my flickr feed, as I’ve some fun zoo shots posted.
Robby’s FavoriteZooMoments!! of 2005:
- When Dana and I got “Wed” stamped on our hands. It made me laugh.
- Watching sharks, sea turtles, and stingrays swim within a foot of me in the aquarium-tunnel thing. I don’t have any great shots, as the flash would have been rubbish and the lighting was dim, but I do have one shark pic posted.
- Watching the jellyfish float through the water, beautiful and ethereal and yet somehow alive.
- Making out in the dark against the vampire bat cage. Gotta take those opportunities when they’re given. :)
- Sitting inches from a mountain gorilla and sharing a moment. I love gorillas, but I’d never seen one in person. I didn’t take any photos because I didn’t want to ruin the moment.
- Watching the tiger cubs play. Pretty kitties…
After the zoo, we ate at Chipotle and headed back to Lincoln to find a hotel. We ended up booking a room at the Fairfield Inn Marriott. Then we headed back to her aunt’s place to hang out for the evening. Her family members have fantastic memories, and as such, I couldn’t really contribute much to many of the conversations. I had a pretty good time regardless. :) I spent the evening working on a really hard puzzle (puzzles suck) and watching Midnight Lace until around 1:30am.
Other Stuff.
I left Lincoln for home around 10:45am. I don’t remember much of the drive home (not surprising considering I’ve had 7 hours sleep in the last 48) except that I sang along with too much Slipknot and now don’t have much of a voice, and that I once drifted off in my head and came back very confused because I didn’t remember why I was on the road or where I was going. The dense fog 90% of the way didn’t help matters any.
Hehehe… Grewcock. That was a good joke for like four hours. I think I need a nap.

“Grewcock”-(from the most recent edition of the Newspeak dictionary) clearly describes a condition that befalls Rob right before a “sexcrime” is committed. “Hot young bunny waiting” could have been simplified “doubleplusluckybastard.” hehe, glad you made it back safe and sound! Happy New Year!
