Baby’s first photo-less haircut.

Tuesday, January 23rd, 2007

So I got a haircut this weekend. Chop-chop, bye-bye Robby LongHair. I’m a member of the short-hairs club again. I’d post a picture, but that seems to be tougher than you’d think. I was going to take a picture with my camera, since I carry it everywhere, but then I don’t have a way at work to transfer the photo from the camera to a computer since I quit carrying my laptop with me to work (and my laptop has a built-in card reader). And I couldn’t do it at home either, because I couldn’t find my laptop’s power supply. So I took a photo with my phone’s built-in camera and sent it to my Gmail account, but that came out like utter shite, and I really hope I don’t really look like that, and even if I did, I wouldn’t be posting that picture. So you’re just going to have to wait, I guess. :) Good story, huh?

I also shaved off my beard to complete the look. So I went from being a long-haired guy with a full beard on Sunday to a short-hair, clean shaven guy on Monday. The result? We had a new guy who started in my department yesterday, and when people saw me wandering the building, they thought I was him. Also, my boss brought people around my cubicle just to look at me - you know, like they do to animals in the zoo. ;) In fact, the only person who doesn’t seem to be interested in my body hair one way or another is Smaug, and frankly, I don’t think he cares who comes through the front door of my house at night so long as they give him food and provide body heat.

Anyway, I have several other things I want to talk about, but I don’t want to shove them all in one post, so I think I’ll cut this one short and plan to post again in the very near future. Maybe even later today. Stranger things have happened, if not recently.

Let’s make it official.

You know, for the record, I didn’t specify how much later. :) Patience is a virtue, children.

So! Yes. My blog is up and running again. I’m a little annoyed with my webhost over the ordeal. I got an email from them last week saying they’d randomly decided to move me to a newer, faster server. I was happy about this, until I noticed that my blog’s database did NOT come along for the ride. I emailed back and forth (and back and forth…) with their tech support about this for five. Stinking. Days. Before I solved the problem. Yeah. ~I~ solved it. Five days emailing their tech support and I ended up fixing it myself. Admittedly, I did need their help getting to the solution, but still. It kinda sucks that I had to fix it myself. Normally their tech support is great on the rare occasion I have to use it, so I’ll assume things’ll get better for now.

Alrighty. Big announcement time! Some of you already know, but here t’is just the same: Amanda Marie Wurzinger and I are a couple. :) We have been, in fact, since December 9th, meaning we celebrated our first monthiversary just last week. I waited to post about it because there were a few people I wanted to tell in person first. And then, once I’d spoken to them all, my blog broke. :p So goes life. You know now, and that’ll have to be good enough.

What have we being doing with ourselves? Good question. We keep busy. We went to the Nutcracker Ballet in Ames one weekend, although that might have been before we were an official couple. We’ve went to two Iowa Stars games since the big day (the Stars lost both games, but the last one was really close), which is fun and I hope to continue going. We watch a lot of movies, though we’ve not yet seen one in the theater together (we’re hoping to change that this weekend).

Last weekend, we painted my upstairs living room. T’was a chore! I’d been saying I was going to paint it for months, but hadn’t gotten around to it. On Saturday afternoon we made the spontaneous decision to paint the next day, so we ran to The Woodsmith Store for supplies. I heart my employee discount there. :) I got two gallons of paint in two different shades of pale blue-gray, four rolls of painter’s tape, roller covers, tray inserts, drop cloths, and so on. We, my friends, were going to try vertical stripes.

And try we did! And I think we did a pretty kick-butt job all around. It was close, though. I almost didn’t buy enough supplies. We were very literally scraping the bottom of the can for the base coat. We finished with maybe an ounce or two of useable paint left. And then, after the paint had dried, came the stripe-taping. It was wearing work, and we ~very~ nearly ran out of tape. I’d bought four rolls of the stuff, which is 240 yards (720 feet) of tape. When I taped off the last stripe, I pulled out the remaining tape to see how close we cut it. I had less than eight inches left.

Now my living room walls look awesome, but they are making my furniture look crappy by comparison. I’ve decided I need furniture covers in a rich, solid color of some sort. That’ll come some other weekend. I still haven’t gotten my living room put back together again yet. When I do, I’ll take pictures and post them to flickr.

That’s a good enough update for today. I get the feeling I’ll be posting again soon. If anything, we have a new guy starting in my department at work next week, so my work load should lessen somewhat.

Horay!

If you can read this, it means I have gotten my database back and my blog is up and running again. Horay!

More to come later. :)

There are far too many capital letters in this post.

Here’s the deal: any time you get a text message equating you to a large animal’s bodily secretions simply because you haven’t updated your website in a while, you know it’s either time to start blogging again, or time to find new friends. Since I’m far too lazy to go through the effort required to friendSearch, I’m writing instead. And damn you all. :)

Christmas was a pretty good time. I spent t’was the night before with my parents at their place. There was eggnog, rum, cookies, chips, dip, rum, eggnog, and beer to be enjoyed. I overate by a healthy margin, if such a thing is possible. The day of, I spent waking up late, goofing off, and eventually heading to the g’p'rents’ for more gifting and much, much more overeating. In fact, I pretty much overate every single day twixt Xmas and New Year’s Day. Which is why I’m trying to exercise more this season. I’ll update regarding all that crap later, though. No, really.

New Year’s Eve was a lot of fun. I ended up hanging out at Amanda’s friend Sara’s boyfriend’s (aka Chuck’s) house for a nice house party with 10-12 people. Before the festivities really kicked off, we had a nice dinner at Fire Creek Restaurant in West Des Moines. I had myself a steak that seemed a bit overpriced (in the store, it would have been much cheaper or 5 pounds heavier, at any rate) but was delicious nonetheless. They even cooked it ultra-rare for me.

CBGB & OMFUG it snowed on New Year’s Eve! I was very excited by this fact, in case you couldn’t tell. So far, this has been one of the warmest, least-snowy-est winters on record. Very annoying. It’s freakin’ 50 degrees today. There’s not a high below freezing predicted in the next 10 days, either. Stupid globe and its warm-ness.

So yeah, I got distracted. NYE = Fun. There was beer pong, and hard liquor, and champagne and kissin’ at midnight. I crashed on Chuck’s floor with a bunch of other people, because it was a lot better than crashing elsewhere, what with the snow and alcohol and whatnot. In the morning, we all went to Perkin’s for pancakes. Nummy. I’ll try to get what pictures I have posted later this week.

So that was life in Robbyville over the holiday. I saw relatives, and they saw me. I tried to eat my weight in carbohydrates and sugar, but my weight proved to be a moving target at that point. I had some alcohol. I didn’t work much.

And now, I’m back at work. Meh. I have a good 8 hours of work to do tomorrow, and [checks calendar] a little over 2 hours not already claimed by meetings. Should be interesting. This evening, I’m heading up to Ames for a guy’s night with Quinn and Scott. Tomorrow night, I hear I’m helping friends drink beer on Ingersoll. Saturday, I’m helping more different friends move across town (but closer to me, so it’s okay). Sunday, I sleep. :)
