Today’s best coworker exchange.

Other Rob: I’m going to be out at the Woodsmith Store all afternoon.
Me: Doing what?
Other Rob: Setting up the garden center.
Me: Ooh! Would you pick me up some grass seed while you’re out there?
Other Rob: Sure. Do you want me to get you some fertilizer too?
Me: I don’t need any shit from you right now.

Today is a bit of a slow day here in the ol’ office. Justin and Brian both took half days, Other Rob is going to be out at the store, and Carol and Cheryl are displaced across the street due to the flood, leaving just Jeremy and I here in this corner of the building. So went to lunch together, which was nice, though I totally forgot to be a rebel and order a beer. I did have my second burger of the week, though. It is also my second burger of the week to feature onion rings on top of the burger (how much of a glutton am I?!), so that probably says something about my week in general.

Amanda is planning on taking a her-day (she calls them “me-days,” but that would be confusing) this evening, meaning I’m on my own in terms of entertainment. I’m trying to consider whether I want to find a couple of people to go out with here in Des Moines, find people to hang out with in Ames (it is, after all VEISHEA weekend, and we all know how fun those can be), or just stay home and clean. I fear that the latter is the least fun but most likely of these scenarios unless someone suggests something better soon. :p

Alrighty, back to work. I do have a few things to accomplish before the end of the day. Which might end a bit early for me, if nobody else is around regardless.

Most Boringest Entry We’ver Posted

One of my coworkers sent me an email today which included a fantastically fun conjunction I’d not come across (or thought of myself) before. The context of the sentence was something along the lines of “this section is similar to all the other sections we have ever done.” Except, instead of “we have ever,” he used we’ver. We’ver = we have ever. And you know what the best part was? I didn’t even notice the conjunction right away. My brain automatically translated it into “we have ever” and kept on going. And that is what makes a good conjunction work. Yay geeky grammatical fun!

Oh, and I made it home from San Diego, by the way. No worries there. ;) I may even get around to posting a few pictures sometime. Perhaps even this weekend, if I get sufficiently bored. And “sufficiently bored” might even happen, because Amanda will be up north visiting her family all weekend. Of course, I’ll be spending Saturday evening - Sunday evening in southern Iowa visiting family of my own. So promises I will not make. I’m sure you expected nothing else.

Anyway, I know this is a short post, but I want to try and catch up on a couple of blogs of my own really quickly before I head out for the evening. Have a good weekend, all!

My calves are aching in anticipation.

Today, I was forced (forced!) by my coworkers to eat at Culvers for lunch. I was terrorized by butter burgers and big ol’ fries and maybe an onion ring or two snagged from a coworker’s tray. I think I’m going to regret this meal in about 15 minutes, when I try to convince my body to jog for 3.5 miles on a fatty fuel of butter, beef, custard, and cheese.

The only reason we went to Culvers in the first place was to support wassername that had that nasty car accident with the fire engine a week or two ago… all Des Moines area Culvers were donating 100% of their profits to the family yesterday and today. The best, most awfulest comment this elicited from a coworker: “Man, too bad she didn’t work at Fudruckers.” This is the real reason I eat out with these people. :)

Work life remains busy as ever. We’ve hired someone new, but he won’t be starting for another two months or so, meaning I don’t get a reprieve any time soon. Before Thanksgiving, I was in email promo hell… I was sending out an average of two email promotions per day, all of which had to be designed, tested, approved, and set up in our database for tracking and analysis. Oh, and I was developing the tracking/analysis stuff at the same time. This week, I’ve been working on a website that has to go live in (checks calendar) three minutes. It was a bigger, slower project than it should have been, especially considering the site is simply acting as a proof-of-concept, but at least it’s done and should be pretty enough to be showed off tomorrow.

Work on the website was also slowed by the fact that I had a cold during the first half of the week. It was the first time I was sick in working memory. Of course, those of you who know me well know that my memory doesn’t work all that far back, but still, I’m pretty sure this is my first ailment in a good half-decade or so. I think it resulted in me being extra whiny about this one, too. I’m guessing Justin and Amanda were pretty sick and tired of hearing how my nose, throat, and eyes were doing at any given moment in the day.

Social life is also still really busy, but you won’t hear me complaining about that one as much. I keep busy nearly every night o’ the week these days. This evening, after working out, Amanda is coming over, and we’re going to make dinner, drink eggnog (note to self: buy eggnog), and put up my Christmas tree. Should be a good time. I don’t yet have plans for tomorrow night, but I’m participating in my first ever Pub Crawl on Saturday evening. It’s Christmas themed, and costumes are encouraged. I’m hoping to find something useful in the boxes of decorations I’ll be sifting through tonight.

If I had tourette’s, “Fudruckers!” would be my thing.
